What did you choose fro your New Years Resolutions? Did you swear you’d eat healthy, but you’ve already binged on that leftover Holiday chocolate? Or promise you’d make it to the gym more, but have only gone once? Trust me, I’ve done both of those things. But here are some ways to get back on the Resolution bandwagon and set realistic goals for the coming year!

  1. Take a Look at that Resolution List. Really ask yourself if your resolutions are realistic. Can you really work in going to the gym everyday? Why not start off with 3 days a week? And then keep track on a calendar so you know that you can actually meet your goals.
  2. Set a resolution for self care! Whether that means giving yourself a manicure once a month, taking the time to sit down with a cup of tea and a book, or starting meditation; choose a resolution that will give you that you time! My resolution like this is to smile more. I find that living in NYC, you frown a lot, just to keep yourself safe. But I’ve decided to give smiling a try.
  3. Start with one resolution at a time. Start with one thing on your list and then move on to the next. You don’t want to shock your system by giving up all the sugar and only eating veggies; hitting the gym every day; your system would probably rebel and you’ll have a harder time sticking to it. Instead, gradually work your way into having that me time, to smiling, to slowly pulling away from sugar. Your body with thank you and it will help you keep your goal going.
  4. Talk about your goals. Talking about your resolutions with your family or friends can be a great way to stick with it. You family and friends might want to join in. You can also talk about your progress with them.
  5. Don’t beat yourself up. Everyone needs that cheat day. Maybe you even need a cheat week, or month! It’s ok if you’re behind on your goal. Just start again!
  6. Ask for support. My sister and I are doing the paleo diet together, I’ve already fallen off the bandwagon with all the cookies I’ve been eating, but we’ve made every dinner paleo. It’s good to have a partner I can turn to help with the cooking as well as to support me when I tell her how I ate yet another cookie.
  7. Create a time frame. Is there a goal you want to achieve that you can say you’re going to do by the end of April? May? The end of the summer? I’m going to finish a script by the end of the summer, it doesn’t have to be good, but I’m going to finish it. Now that I have a deadline in mind, I’m setting up how I can achieve this with smaller deadlines for myself.
  8. Write up a plan. Similar to the time frame, make a plan that you can tape to your bathroom mirror! It’s there in front of you and you can do it!
  9. Keep a Journal to track your process. If you can see it, you can keep going!
  10. Make sure your resolution is achievable! You want a resolution where you can have measurable steps that get you to an achievable goal. You can do it girl!
  11. Make your goals public. Similar to talking to friends and family, why not post your goals on social media! Then you’re declaring to a huge group of people what you’re about to do and they can help keep you on track. It might be a little scary but it can also help give you the push you need!
  12. Enjoy the ride. You made these goals for a reason, we know you can do it! Just give yourself the time to put them into action and enjoy the process!
