It’s time for some self care, and whether you’re celebrating self-love, familial, platonic, or true love, we have some ideas to help you make the most of this month, while social distancing.
Even though we’re stuck inside and stuck inside our homes, there are ways that you can celebrate the love of yourself. These ideas are ways to help you feel the love this month.
Write a Letter to a Loved One. Break out your best stationary and write a letter to anyone you love. Tell them about your life, about what you’re doing in quarantine, or maybe even straight up pretend you’re in a Jane Austen novel and describe your time in your country house.
Find a Charity to Donate to, or Donate Your Time as a Volunteer. Love your community and the world around you by donating to a charity or volunteering for one! When you give back, you feel better too. Find a cause that you can get behind and help change the world!
Send Anonymous Valentines. Valentines don’t have to be just for elementary school classrooms! I recently found some Harry Potter and Pokemon cards at the local drugstore and have been sending them anonymously to my friends. It’s a fun throwback and sure to bring a smile to their face and mine.
Spend a Day Practicing Self-Care. Love yourself! Make loving yourself a part of your routine. Whether that means practicing gratitude, giving yourself time to meditate, or taking that long luxurious bubble bath, self-care is important.
Put on Your Favorite Song and Dance. What music do you love? What music did you love in middle school? Throwback those jams and remember those fun times before the pandemic, we’ll be dancing again soon!
Plan Your Dream Vacation for After the Pandemic. Just the act of having something to look forward to can help elevate your mood. Where do you want to go? Can you get a good deal right now for that hotel you’ve been eyeing? Is there somewhere close you can safely get to?
Read Some Poetry. I never read poetry, but at the suggestion of a friend, I’ve been reading one poem a day. It gives me a chance to reflect, to think about language in other ways, and to just sit in silence for about two minutes.
Have a Tea Tasting. Do you know what your favorite tea is? If not, then it’s time to find out! Find all those random tea packets and make a couple of different cups! Try them with milk and with honey! What is your favorite? Which tea do you love?
Light a New Candle. Candles just make me happy. I always have a candle burning on my work from home desk. Do you have a favorite scent? The fire can remind you of warm and cozy days, and certain smells can transport you! Right now, I have a candle from my favorite farm, Pole Hill Provisions, in Vermont Spruce that brings me back to camping in the wilderness with my family.
Pretend You’re at the Movies. Why not set up your living room like a home theatre? Break out the popcorn and candy and watch some trailers on YouTube beforehand!
