Are you ready to go on your next adventure?
Are you ready to take on the world again?
With restrictions for COVID starting to be lifted there are all kinds of things we can now do, but I’m not planning any vacation as of yet. Right now I’m planning a stay-cation in my city, that way I get all the adventures I need and can save money too!
Here are some ideas to make the best staycation ever!

1. Travel Around the “World” — Why not try traveling from home? Order or make a certain type of food, perhaps Italian, and then watch an Italian film with your loved ones. Try a documentary on the country or just a film that takes place there. You’ll have so much fun with these themed nights.

2. Picnic Indoors or in your Yard — I love to picnic everywhere! Why not grab a towel and set up a picnic in your yard, or if it’s too hot, try it inside! I like to set up an “aesthetic” picnic with candles, flowers, and all of the cheese! This is the perfect picnic weather!

3. Give Yourself a Spa Day — Treat yourself to a manicure and pedicure! Grab that old nail polish and put it on, or try a design. I also found that I loved doing my own foot massages, you can buy lotion and scrubs online for that glowing leg. Or put on a face mask and slice up a cucumber for your eyes, or better yet, make some lemon/cucumber water.

4. Stargaze — Grab a telescope or just use your eyes and find an app that lets you know what’s in the sky above you. Better yet, go to a place where there’s not a lot of light, near me, I go up into the mountains, and see all those amazing stars. Bring a blanket to lie on and look up at that magical view.

5. Take a Virtual Tour — With everything moving online this year, there were so many opportunities to travel without leaving the house. Take advantage of all the different offerings and why not try a walk around New York with the New York Times Architecture Writer here or go international, my favorite tours have been by Eagle Travel virtual trips to Russia.

6. Have an Outdoor Movie Night — Set up a TV or projector outdoors and watch a movie under the stars. We’ve been watching all the AFI Top 100 movies outdoors and there’s something amazing about watching Casablanca on the big (projector) screen.

7. Paint Night — Have your own paint night! Invite friends to join you virtually or in person and watch a Bob Ross episode on youtube! Just slowly go through it and have fun!

8. Go Hiking — Head to your local path and see some nature. You’ll be able to see some amazing things and take in the beauty of your area.

9. Game Night — Grab some board games or a deck of cards and host some friends or your family for a game night. My favorite board games are Splendor and Carcassonne, they’re easy to find and learn.

10. Scavenger Hunt — Make a list for a scavenger hunt of items around the house or your neighborhood, or find one from online. Have your friends and family team up for a fun run around your local area. I once did a scavenger hunt around Washington DC and it was a fun way to see the city.

11. Pizza Party — Make your own pizzas! Make or buy the dough and then have a toppings party. You and your family can make the pizzas how you like and experiment with new toppings.

12. Take a Cooking Class — There are now all kinds of cooking classes online. I’ve taken some through AirBnB experiences as well as Sur La Table. It’s a great way to connect with your family everywhere in the world. I took a class on how to make Japanese Soufflé Pancakes with my Parents in California, sister in Chicago, and my other sister in Switzerland. It was fun to connect over cooking, albeit from far away. You can even find instructional videos on YouTube.

13. Be a Tourist in Your City — Go explore that museum you’ve never been to, that restaurant you’ve been meaning to try, that area of the city that you never went to, now is the time to be a tourist in your city! Why not try going on your own street art tour, look up the locations to check out and go take pics at all of them! Or go on a taco tour, or whatever your location is famous for.

14. Become a Cocktail Connoisseur — Take a cocktail class online or just find a book and start making some new ones. Do you know how to make the Bees Knees? What about a Cosmopolitan? Try different flavors and combinations to make your own, and why not try a mocktail?

15. Go Bird watching — Bird Watching has taken flight during these pandemic times. Grab a pair of binoculars and go to your local park to see the different types of birds in your area.
