It’s fall ya’ll! I’m from Texas, so I had to open with it!
We are back to school and I’m working really hard to get into “teacher shape”. If you don’t know what “teacher shape” is, here we go!
Teachers, and by teachers I mean me, have to get back into the following abilities:
- Standing on your feet from 7:30-4:00.
- Getting over 10,000 steps on your Fit Bit without leaving your classroom.
- Never having a chance to use the restroom. (Remember, can’t leave the classroom)
- Talking to over 100 teenagers a day.
- Presenting what I think are entertaining and amazing lessons and information, only to hear crickets chirping and begging students to get off their phones.
- Working those ab muscles from laughing with students, because honestly, they are hilarious and I love getting to know them.
- Learning something new everyday. They teach me as I’m teaching them.
Every teacher has their needs and items that help them eat through the day. Now, for the beginning of the year “teacher starter pack:
- Caffeine Caffeine Caffeine!
Now most teachers like their caffeine in the form of coffee. I prefer a Coke Zero, ice tea (NOT sweet, which is a no no in Texas), and my new discovery Celsius energy drink.
2. A new cute tumbler.
We have to keep that caffeine somewhere and a coffee mug is not big enough.
3. Classroom sweater/cardigan
Our rooms are either the temperature of the sun or the North Pole. There is no in between and we have to suffer through. Layers are a teacher’s friend.
4. Comfy shoes
Teachers start looking great, but by the end of the day they put on the neutral comfortable shoes they keep under their desk.
5. Quick and easy lunches
We don’t have time for anything extravagant and their is always a line to use the microwave. Sometimes I just drink a protein shake for lunch and eat when I get home.
Give a teacher a smile, a hug, or high five. We are in the classroom for your kids and the only thing we want is to see them succeed.
In the end it’s an amazing and rewarding experience and I’m blessed to have the opportunity to meet these young adults.
Enjoy your fall and have a wonderful school year!
