Being a boy mom is not for the faint of heart.  Boy moms have to get used to seeing scrapes, bruises, and blood on their sons.  We know when we hear, “HEY WATCH THIS!”, that we need the first aid kit ready.  Boy moms know that silence is not golden and that’s the time to become concerned.  Boy moms know that one day we won’t be the only woman in their precious hearts, but we will be there when those hearts get broken.  Being a boy mom is amazing and my three boys own my heart.

Valentine’s Day is not typically a boy holiday.  Football has ended and March Madness is about to begin.  To my boys, February is a month of waiting for the next event….SPRING BREAK.  However, as a true boy mom I definitely find ways to celebrate my love for the three boys who own my heart.

Fun ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day with rough and rugged boys.

  1. Put hearts on their bedroom doors.  I love to put hearts on their doors that have fun messages on them.  My boys love it and keep them up for months after Valentine’s Day.
  2. Enjoy and fun movie and if it’s a rom com, even better.  It’s good for boys to understand what a positive and healthy relationship looks like and most rom coms don’t demonstrate that.  Be sure to explain the correct way to communicate and treat someone they care about.
  3. Candlelight dinner with a heart shaped pizza.  This silly tradition has become a favorite of my boys and they love to get to milk and soda from my fancy wine glasses.
  4. Teach them to show love to all.  Valentine’s Day is not just for romance.  I want my boys to know that their family, friends, teachers, and coaches are all a part of their lives and that showing love and appreciation to them is important.
  5. Give them the chocolate hearts.  They are not too macho to enjoy a chocolate heart covered in pink and red packaging.  They love it too!
  6. Wear red and pink on Valentine’s Day.  There are so many fun Valentine’s Day shirts for everyone.  I let them choose one they like.
  7. Take them out to dinner….their choice!  I’ve had Valentine dinners at Whataburger, Torchy’s Tacos, and BBQ restaurants.  It was fun and we all enjoyed the food and atmosphere, because we were together.
  8. Play video games with them.  I am terrible at Mario Kart, but when I play it with them, they love it.  Doing something they enjoy and being a part of their gaming world is entertaining for you and them.
  9. Surprise them with a Valentine’s Day breakfast.  Mornings can be busy and feel so rushed.  It would mean so much to them if you take time to sit and enjoy a nice breakfast with heart shaped waffles as a family.
  10. Be ready when they ask for help picking out a card and gift for a girl.  It will happen and as hard as it will be to accept, help them, because he came to you and wants you to be a part of his life….still.

In the end, just let these wild boys know you love them, because I guarantee, boys LOVE their moms and that is the best Valentine I could ask for.
