Fall is here, at least the month of September is, but the crisp cool weather isn’t. With fall comes school and sports. Juggling the schedules of three boys ages 10, 13, and 16 forces me to be creative with dinners, lunches, and laundry!
Not only are my boys in three different schools, they start and finish at three different times. Now with sports, the 13 and 16 year olds have practice at 6:00 in the morning. Thankfully their schools are close to each other and now my oldest is driving himself and his brother to school. Therefore, I get up early with them and prepare their breakfast, snacks, water, and practice clothes ready and make sure they are ready for all their activities. Somedays their practices are also after school and of course finish at different times. I will typically pick up my 13 year old from football practice, while my 16 year old takes his youngest brother home. They have a snack and then when I get home, I get the youngest one ready for his football practice.
After getting my boys to school, practice, and then back home, now we do homework and dinner. I have found that my slow cooker crock pot is the best appliance in my kitchen. I start dinner before I leave the house in the morning and it’s ready when I get home. Therefore, I can help with homework and just spend time with my boys. After dinner I pack lunches for the next day, lay out clothes, and make sure we all have our masks to start the next day. Then comes bedtime, the best part of my day. Bedtime is my one on one time with each one of my boys. We talk about their day and what they are looking forward to and read together and just relax and enjoy our life.
Now not everyday and every week is the same, and our schedules are always subject to change. Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays are game days and in Texas, football game days are serious. The best part of our crazy fall schedule is watching my boys do what they love. As long as they are having fun then it is totally worth it.
It took me a while to find my rhythm juggling everyone’s schedules, but we (my boys and I) did it together. As a mom of three very active boys, the one thing I am most proud of is the way they support and love each other. They watch and cheer each other on and they help each other with homework.
As busy as our week gets, we take Sunday to spend together, relaxing, watching movies, and getting laundry done!
