Do you have Halloween costumes? What are your plans?
My favorite thing to do on Halloween is to hang out at home with a hot cup of tea and to watch a horror film.
If you’re ready for a more relaxed Halloween after a wild weekend of costumes and parties, or if you just want to celebrate the holiday in a more relaxed fashion, here are some ideas that might help you relax for this year’s Halloween.
- Cozy it up. Grab that warm blanket and make yourself a cup of your favorite tea or hot chocolate, then sit by a fire perhaps and tell ghost stories with your family or friends. It’s fun to start a story and then have the next person next to you continue it, you never know where the story might end up. Or have someone tell a ghost story, or read one off the internet.
- Watch a Horror Film. It’s that time of year to be scared to death. Are you ready to watch a horror film on Halloween night? There are so many good horror films now streaming and there are always the classics, why not go for The Shining, the Silence of the Lambs, or any of Jordan Peele’s excellent newer horror films. Or if you want something with a little more suspense, you can always check out one of Alfred Hitchcock’s films, my favorites are The Birds and Rear Window.
- People Watch. This is the time to look out your window and look around! Why not set up a camping chair and sit and read a book outside while you’re watching all the cute little kids in their costumes. You can even count the number of popular characters you see for a fun game… How many Anna and Elsa’s are there? How many marvel superheroes? Whoever sees them first gets the point.
- Listen to Spooky Music. Turn on a playlist to get you in the mood. Maybe listen to a playlist of all those classic horror music themes, you can even think of one right now in two musical notes, Jaws. Or if you’re up for something different, try something by Philip Glass, or my personal favorite, the opera La Damnation de Faust by Berlioz. You can really feel like you’re in an epic horror story.
- Sing to those Halloween Songs. Karaoke with your family to Thriller, or the One Eyed, One Armed, Flying Purple People Eater. Make a game out of it and see who is the most into their song. You can even just have a lip sync battle. Or just put on these less scary and more fun tunes to celebrate the day.
- Hand out Candy. One of the joys of Halloween is getting to see all the cute little kids in their amazing costumes. Some of them are quite inventive. Hand out the candy from your home or from your street, and enjoy bringing joy to these kids. You’ll find the joy too because how can you not feel happy when you get to see a baby in a costume?
- Make something sweet. There is the big part of halloween that is about the “treat.” So get into your kitchen and whip up an amazing sweet. What is your treat of choice? We have all kinds of recipes on the blog from brownies to pies to cakes… you could even keep it easy and just make some hot chocolate with a peep marshmallow in the shape of a ghost. Throw it into the hot chocolate and voila, the easiest treat of the night.
- Play a Halloween Trivia Game. Did you know that Dracula is based off of a real historical figure? How about where costumes came from? What was the first time kids trick or treated? How did giving candy out become a thing? Learn the history of the holiday and make your own trivia game with your family.
- Play a Spooky Board Game. There are so many fun board games with a spooky feel! Why not try Pandemic, you know we’ve all just gone through the scariest years of our collective lives, so are you ready for a game that recalls it? There are also some fun monster games like Talisman to get you in the mood.
- Have a Halloween Themed Paint Night. Put on a video that helps you learn how to paint. You can find a Bob Ross video on YouTube or anything about painting a pumpkin online. Enjoy hanging out with your family in a more relaxed way while putting your artistic skills to the test.
- Stay Relaxed if You’re PMS-ing. We all need a little extra help, and if you’re feeling that PMS time make sure you try the supplement Jubilance for PMS. It is the solution for your anxiety and gloominess during that time of the month, and you want to enjoy Halloween!
