One for the Money was introduced to me in 1997 by my mother.
It is the first book in Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series.
The 30th book was released and it was what I’ve been waiting for since book #8.
If you haven’t read the Stephanie Plum series, do not worry, you can pick up and start the series with any book. Evanovich does a great job of providing enough back story in each book, so if you are not confused if you didn’t start from the beginning. But, if you are interested in a laugh out loud, pure candy, and just a fun book series, start at book 1, One for the Money. And, just a side note, the movie was OK, but the book is 100% better!
The Stephanie Plum series centers around the main character, Stephanie. She becomes a bond enforcement officer; bounty hunter. And let’s face it, she’s as good a bounty hunter as I would be. She is always getting into strange situations and her cars (yes multiple cars) usually blow up. Her character is observant and she can read people very well, which is why she is able Stephanie is a very relatable woman. She stress eats cookie dough and pizza, she questions herself and her life choices, and she is very caring and compassionate. Stephanie is not the only fun character in the series. Her grandma Mazur is my favorite character. She is a loving and accepting mess that makes you laugh out loud. Stephanie’s sidekick, Lula, isn’t much help to Stephanie, but she is bold, intriguing, and full of confidence. She’s also very emotional and not too rational, but it works for her. Stephanie has two very attractive men in her life, police detective Joe Morelli and fellow bounty hunter Ranger. Every book we are introduced to new, goofy, and hilarious characters. Dirty Thirty did not disappoint.
The reason Dirty Thirty is the book we/I have been waiting for, is because the main character, Stephanie Plum, has a big decision to make. And that’s all I’m going to say about it! Evanovich’s writing is still fun and entertaining. She has created colorful characters and just when you think you know everything you could possibly know about them, she gives us more depth and fun. This is a great summer book because you can read, relax, and laugh. It also reminds me of my mom and I know that she would love to see where Stephanie ended up with this book. And, good news, Now or Never book #31 will be released this November.
Thoughts and questions:
1. How can Stephanie be so calm surrounded by so much chaos?
2. Will she ever choose between Joe and Ranger? Who would I choose? (Joe, of course!), but I don’t think Stephanie and I have the same taste.
3. Stephanie’s mom seems so much more accepting of Stephanie’s job and life. What made her accept it?
4. Did Lula read Beowulf? Where has she heard of Grendel? (the answer is in the book)
5. The ending!!! What?!!!!
