The summer is coming and it’s time to start thinking of ideas for how to best spend time with your family.
The past couple of years have been hard on everyone, especially the children, so it is important to take the time to find joy, and to have a great summer.
Why not try some Games?
Yard games are classic for both adults and for kids and are a great way to hang out all together. You can play croquet and channel your inner Bridgerton characters, or play horseshoes, or bocce ball. You could also just bring some board games outside to play as a family. We have some great suggestions HERE for board games that aren’t monopoly.
Set up an Outdoor Movie
Make your own cinema night and create a backyard movie with a projector and movie screen. Enjoy throwing all kinds of pillows, chairs, and blankets around the backyard and create your own concession stand.
Look up at the Stars
There is so much to see up in the night sky. Try looking up and enjoying the view. You can use the app Night Sky to figure out what you’re looking at. Why not tell a story of the constellations?` Or create your own story about the stars.
Make some S’mores
Whether you’re around a campfire or not, you can enjoy the classic camping treat. All you need are graham crackers, chocolate, and marshmallows. And why not try to make it more gourmet with sprinkles and whatever other sweet treats that you find?
Find a Campfire
Head to a spot where you can light a campfire. This might be at a beach near you, or at a campsite, or you might be able to put a fire ring in your backyard. Gather around the campfire and tell some scary stories.
Barbecue
Barbecues are the perfect thing for summer. Cook up some of your favorites and then have a great time sitting at the table together discussing your days. Take that time to sit and eat together.
Make Homemade Ice Cream
It’s not as hard as you think! There is a lot of shaking involved in creating your own ice cream, but it is incredibly delicious. And you’ll need the help of the whole family to continue to shake the bag. HERE’S A RECIPE TO GET STARTED.
Plant a Garden
Get creative with what you want to do with your garden. Maybe you’ve always wanted to try to grow tomatoes, or your son’s favorite food is blueberries. Figure out what you want to plant and make it a project with the family.
Set up a Blow Up Pool
It’s fun for adults and kids alike. When it gets really hot, sometimes you just need to have a little plunge in some cooler water. Set it up for a day and enjoy the novelty of this thing you played in when you were young.
Have a Picnic
Set up a blanket on your lawn and have a picnic in the backyard. You don’t need anything special, but take your dining to the ground and enjoy a delicious meal outside.
