Summer is a time for relaxation, fun, and rejuvenation. However, for many individuals, it can also be a time of heightened anxiety, stress, and feelings of isolation.

If you are looking to navigate your way away from heightened feelings of nervousness, isolation and loneliness this summer toward more joy, check out some tips below!

*Please note that if you are experiencing any significant mental health challenge, please contact your provider for care. These are suggestions to increase joy and do not substitute treatment plans for your mental wellness. *

Spend time outdoors:

Take advantage of the warm weather and spend time outside. Whether it’s going for a walk, having a picnic, or just sitting in the sun, being outside can boost your mood and increase feelings of happiness.

Connect with nature:

Spend time in nature by going on hikes, camping trips, or beach days. Research has shown that being in nature can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression while increasing feelings of happiness and well-being.

Try a new hobby:

Summer is the perfect time to explore new hobbies and passions. Try something you’ve always wanted to do, such as painting, learning a new instrument, or trying a new sport.

Take a break from technology:

Disconnect from technology by taking a break from social media, emails, and other digital devices. Spend time with loved ones and engage in activities that allow you to be fully present in the moment.

Practice mindfulness:

Mindfulness is the practice of being fully present in the moment without judgment. Practice mindfulness by taking a few minutes each day to focus on your breath, observe your surroundings, or engage in a relaxing activity.

Spend time with loved ones:

Spend quality time with friends and family by going on outings, hosting barbecues, or having game nights. Connection with others can boost feelings of happiness and provide a sense of belonging.

Get enough sleep:

Getting enough sleep is essential for both physical and mental health. Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep each night to ensure you’re well-rested and energized for the day ahead.

Stay hydrated:

Staying hydrated is crucial during the summer months, especially when spending time outside. Drinking enough water can help boost energy levels, improve mood, and prevent dehydration.

Practice self-care:

Take care of yourself by engaging in activities that promote self-care, such as taking a bubble bath, going for a massage, or practicing yoga or meditation.

Practice gratitude:

Gratitude is the practice of focusing on the positive aspects of life and being thankful for what you have. Take a few minutes each day to reflect on the things you’re grateful for, such as your health, family, or a beautiful sunset.

Learn something new:

Learning something new can be fun and rewarding. Take a class, read a book, or watch a documentary to expand your knowledge and skills.

Practice kindness:

Random acts of kindness can boost feelings of happiness and make a positive impact on others. Practice kindness by holding the door for someone, paying for someone’s coffee, or leaving a positive note for a loved one.

There are many ways to increase joy during the summer months. By spending time outdoors, connecting with nature, practicing mindfulness, and engaging in self-care, you can boost your mood and increase feelings of happiness and well-being. Remember to embrace the season and engage in activities that bring you joy and make you feel alive. Wishing you a Jubilance filled start to your summer!
