Did you see that cheer that came from Jamie Lee Curtis when Michelle Yeoh won her Golden Globe?  If you just look at the picture, doesn’t it seem like Jamie won?

The joy from this picture is infectious and is a good reminder that you always cheer on your best friend, but isn’t it time to cheer on yourself with that same attitude?

What would you do if your best friend won a golden globe?

You would scream, you would shout, you would jump up and down with them.  It’s time to take the same moments for yourself when you have your own wins.

Would your best friend berate you for forgetting something during work?  No.  So don’t do it to yourself.

Would your best friend give you a big hug when you told her about a little win you had that day?  Yes.  So do it for yourself.

It’s time to grant yourself the self care and the love that your best friend gives to you, you deserve that self love.

So how exactly can you do this?  Here are some ideas to help you on this task!

Celebrate the Little Win.

Give yourself a hug or ask for one!  Throw that fist into the air or just dance around.  You know your best friend would be there to support you, so make sure you’re supporting yourself.  Make sure you smile and just tell yourself something nice.

Celebrate the Big Win.

If you just got a new job, finished a big project, went for that interview, taught your child how to ride a bike, that’s a big win!  And what would your BFF suggest you do to celebrate?  Maybe you both like to go out to a nice restaurant, or grab a glass of wine and sit on your porch, or maybe you celebrate by going on a hike together — your BFF would suggest some sort of celebration and you should do it just with yourself!  Take yourself out on a date to celebrate the win!

Compliment Yourself.

Your best friend would come up to you and tell you how cute your top is, how amazing your hair shines, and how good you look in those pants, right?  Believe her!  And then say it to yourself.  Look at yourself in the mirror and tell yourself how good you look.  You know you’re looking great, tell yourself that- it will not only elevate your mood but your confidence!  And you deserve to hear kind things come out of your mouth.  Even say them out loud, they’ll have more power!

Give Yourself a Pep Talk.

If you’re feeling nervous or anxious before a big interview, a date, anything in life, don’t you go to your best friend to talk about it?  You tell them you’re worried and they come back with a whole list of how amazing you are, how the interviewers or the person you’re going on a date would be crazy not to love you, how you’re great at everything you do and you’re smoking hot.  Your best friend knows all of this and so it’s time to believe it about yourself.  Think about what your best friend would say about you and tell yourself these ideas of your intelligence, your worth, your kindness, your compassion.  You can tell yourself amazing things because you are amazing.

Best friends are the confidence builder we all need.  They love you no matter what, and they know what to say to build you up.  But you can turn the tables and say all these kind things to yourself.

Isn’t it time to treat yourself how your best friend would treat you?
