I first fell in love with scones when I moved to New York City and visited a tea parlor.
I had never had “high tea” before, and it was pretty random to have it in New York in general, but as a gluten free eater, I had never before experienced the delight of sipping tea and munching on bite sized treats. The tea parlor had gluten free options and so I thought, I had to try a scone!
From the first bite I was in love and proceeded to try all of the scones on the menu. Scones are the perfect treat to go with that tea or coffee in the morning, or to have as a small snack after lunch while working from home. I love savory and sweet scones, plain and fruity, chocolate-y and cheesy. There are so many different options!
At a time where we’re still stuck in our houses and working from our living rooms, it’s a fun reprieve to go into the kitchen and bake something new. Why not try this scone recipe that you can then adapt to all different types of scones. This is a buttermilk scone recipe where if you want to add those chocolate chips, you can go right ahead! What about berries? Just plop them in. This recipe is completely adaptable, which makes it great to create something new, while still knowing that it will turn out amazingly!
What you Need:
- 3 Cups of All Purpose Flour (or if you’re gluten free like me, I recommend the GF flour from Trader Joe’s)
- ½ Teaspoon Baking Soda
- 2 Teaspoons Baking Powder
- ½ Teaspoon Salt
- ½ Cup Melted Butter
- 1 Cup Buttermilk
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit
- Mix together all the dry ingredients, the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
- Make a well in the middle of the dry ingredients and pour in the butter and buttermilk
- Mix gently together with your hands, you don’t want to knead the flour, because you want the light and fluffiness of the scone
- Add in that mix in that you want! Maybe some berries or chocolate chips (optional)
- Make small balls that you place on a baking sheet
- Bake for 15 minutes
