“Are you doing ok?” That’s the first question I’m asking everyone I talk to on Zoom. The second question I ask, is “What are doing to feel like yourself?” As an extrovert who is used to my city that never sleeps (New York), I am having a HARD time with self-isolation. Luckily I’m with loved ones, but it’s been hard not to have my crazy social life as usual.

Here are some of my ideas for keeping some essence of socializing in your life.

  1. Start a book club. I’m actually a part of three right now! Why not? I’m in a Harry Potter book club (we’re rereading the whole series), along with a self-help book club, and a club with my girlfriends I usually hang out with. It’s a way to check in, to keep our minds sharp, and to socially hang!
  2. Visit a museum, virtually! My boyfriend and I have been taking advantage of all the museums we can visit! We visited the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam the other day. We just sat and toured the museum virtually and it was a great way to spark conversations other than, “WHEN WILL THIS DISASTER END??”
  3. Play Trivia! There are all kinds of ways to play this virtually. My friends and I have been playing through the Instagram Live trivia from @NYCTriviaLeague every Monday/Wednesday/Friday. It’s a great way to invite a whole slew of friends who may or may not know each other and work together toward a common goal.
  4. Schedule Brunch! My best friend and I have brunch every Sunday at 11am. We show off our breakfast creations and talk about life.
  5. Netflix Party! This app is amazing and you can talk to your friends while all watching the same movie on Netflix!
  6. Play a virtual game! You can work puzzles with friends over the internet, you can play amazing board games virtually like Lords of Waterdeep, Farmassone, and even a Cards Against Humanity facsimile with Evil Apples.
  7. Keep Active with friends! Call your friends and zoom while doing the same youtube workout! It keeps you accountable and makes it more fun!
